Sefwi-Wiawso (WN/R), June 25, GNA – The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) is set to form Anti-Drug Clubs in Senior High Schools (SHSs) within the Western North Region to aid in the fight against drug and other substance abuse among students.
Mr Dennis Adutwum-Gyimah, a Principal Narcotics Control Officer, said this would be done in collaboration with councilors in the various SHSs.
He disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after a sensitisation workshop with school councilors
Mr Adutwum-Gyimah used the opportunity to commended the government for the initiative and was hopeful it would yield positive results in the fight against drug use, especially among the youth who were the future leaders.
He mentioned that his outfit had been educating basic and senior high school students on the dangers of drugs, and promised to continue to help bring down the usage of drugs among the youth.
The Principal Narcotics Control Officer also advised the youth to avoid drugs in order not to be burdens for their families and society.
He further asked them not to allow themselves to be introduced to drugs and urged them to report such individuals to the appropriate authorities.
Mr Adutwum-Gyimah cautioned drug peddlers within the region to stop their activities, saying his outfit would ensure they faced the law when caught.
“We are monitoring the activities of drug peddlers and sellers, and we will always come after them,” he said.
Some of the councilors in an interview with the Ghana News Agency lauded the workshop and said it had equipped them with more knowledge on how best to go about their responsibilities in their various schools.
They also welcomed the move to set up the Anti-Drug Clubs in the schools.
