Ghanaians urged to support activities of Peace Council for development

Agyemadiem (W/N/R), June 25, GNA – Reverend Frank Donkor, Member of the Western North Regional Peace Council, has called on Ghanaians, especially residents of the Western North Region, to actively support the Council’s activities to ensure accelerated development.

He said the mandate of the Peace Council was to ensure people live in harmony with one another but achieving that goal required the commitment and cooperation of every individual.

Rev. Donkor made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the Council held a successful community engagement at Agyemadiem in the Juaboso District.

The engagement, held under the theme, “Promoting Community Vigilance and Social Cohesion,” brought residents together to deliberate on strengthening peaceful coexistence and finding effective ways to fight crime at the community level.

“When there is peace, we are assured of development,” Rev. Donkor emphasised. “That is why I am calling on Ghanaians, especially those in the Western North Region, to always embrace peace at all levels. It is the foundation for positive socio-economic development.”

He assured that the Council would continue engaging more communities on the need to live at peace with one another.

However, the Council cannot succeed alone and therefore needed the maximum support of all stakeholders, he noted.

Nana Kofi Donkor II, the Chief of Agyemadiem, commended the Peace Council for the engagement and suggested that more of such programmes be organised.

He said sustained education on the benefits of peaceful coexistence would help residents internalise it as a way of life, which would in turn attract the development the community needed.

“Let us accept peace at all times so that the government will not have to spend resources on security to enforce peace,” Nana Donkor stated.

Mr Isaac Kwadwo Mensah, the Assembly Member for Agyemadiem Electoral Area, speaking on behalf of residents, also thanked the Western North Regional Peace Council for the engagement.

He commended the Juaboso District Assembly for its plans to establish a police station in the area, saying it would significantly improve security and complement the peace-building efforts.

With peace seen as a prerequisite for development, stakeholders at the engagement agreed that community vigilance and social cohesion must become a shared responsibility for all residents.
