Keta (VR) June 04, GNA-Mr Wisdom Seade, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta, in the Volta Region, together with the technical team of the Keta Municipal Assembly, have announced a major Sanitation Day exercise aimed at restoring cleanliness and public health standards in the area.

The exercise, scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, is expected to take place at Dzelukope Amugo, at 0530 hours with a strong focus on clearing choked gutters and removing rubbish to allow stagnant water to flow freely.

Mr Wisdom Seade, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA0, expressed concern over the poor turnout usually recorded during communal labour exercises and urged the residents to fully participate in the exercise to promote the area.

” As the MCE, let me warn that the Assembly will strictly enforce its sanitation byelaws during and after the exercise. Residents have been directed not to open their shops or conduct any commercial activities on Saturday until the clean-up is completed,” he said.

He disclosed that the exercise is expected to be massive in scale and called on all residents of Dzelukope and surrounding communities to come out in their numbers with tools to support the sanitation drive.

He expressed optimism that the Saturday’s exercise would mark a turning point in the fight against filth and its associated health risks and stated that desilting major drains to prevent flooding in low-lying areas would be prioritised.

“Health workers from the Keta Government Hospital have been invited to join the exercise. Officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are also expected to participate, among others which will demonstrate inter-agency collaboration in the sanitation campaign,” Mr Seade said.

The Keta Municipal Assembly believed that consistent and collective action is necessary to maintain a clean environment, and the leadership has urged every citizen to treat the Sanitation Day as a civic responsibility rather than an option.

The Assembly has further promised to provide logistics and technical support to ensure the exercise achieve its desired impact, while the assembly reiterated that the success of the programme would depend on full community participation and compliance with sanitation regulations.

The assembly has assured residents that they remained committed to improving living conditions through sustained environmental cleanliness.
