Tel Aviv, June 5, (dpa/GNA) – The Israeli military has said that it killed four Hamas members in the north of the Gaza Strip. Earlier on Thursday, medics reported nine deaths following Israeli attacks on residential buildings in Gaza City overnight. According to the reports, those killed include the four men identified by Israel as Hamas members, as well as four relatives of one of them.
The Israeli military and domestic intelligence service Shin Bet, said the four men belonged to Hamas’ general security apparatus, which is responsible for protecting senior figures and coordinating meetings. According to Israel, the four had been involved in efforts to rebuild the militant group’s capabilities.
The army said it had taken steps before the attacks to spare the civilian population, and had used precision munitions. Hamas did not immediately confirm that those killed were members of the group.
The information from both sides cannot be independently verified. A ceasefire has been in place since last October in the war between Israel and Hamas, although reports of strikes and armed incidents continue.
