Nkwanta (O/R), Sept.19, GNA- Residents of Vume, a fishing community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, have received a newly constructed health facility funded by the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly.
The facility, which is expected to improve access to healthcare in the community, will also serve residents of other neighbouring island communities who previously had to travel long distances to access basic health services.
The facility was commissioned by the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South and the Municipal Chief Executive funded by the Municipal assembly common fund, was ceremony attended by community leaders, residents, security personnel, party executives and other stakeholders.
Mr Joseph Antwi Awal, the Municipal Chief Executive, speaking during the commissioning, said the project forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to bring essential healthcare services closer to people living in deprivedhard-to-reach communities.
The facility would be expected to provide residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly, with easier access to healthcare and reduce the challenges associated with travelling to distant health centres.
Mr Geoffry Kini, the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, assured residents of continued efforts to improve social services and infrastructure across communities within the Municipality.
He also urged community members to prioritize their health by taking advantage of the health facility to visit for regular check-ups after its operational and also urged them to get registered for the ‘Mahama Care’ in to access free medical care.
Mr Gideon Alesinye,a community member on behalf of the chiefs and elders of the community, expressed appreciation to the MCE and MP for the project, describing it as an important intervention that would contribute to improving healthcare delivery in the community and its surrounding communities.
He also appealed for the facility to be adequately equipped with medical supplies, qualified health personnel, and other essential logistics to enable it to operate effectively.
