Cape Town, Sept 17/ (dpa/GNA) – The bodies of nine women in a little more than two months, have been found in the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality east of Johannesburg, South African police said on Thursday.
All the victims were violently killed, the police said, adding that women in the area should take special care. The discoveries have caused shock nationwide.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, instructed police to prioritize investigations into the nine suspected murders.
Acting Police Minister, Firoz Cachalia, described the cases as “deeply troubling.” “While the investigations must clarify whether the cases are connected, the possibility that one or more perpetrators have deliberately targeted women requires our urgent and determined action,” he said.
