Accra, June 4 (GNA) – A fire outbreak involving residential buildings for police personnel and commercial shops near the Regional Police Headquarters in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) has been successfully contained, preventing its spread to nearby structures.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that firefighters brought the blaze under control and are currently carrying out cooling operations to extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Four fire engines and a water tanker were deployed to the scene to support the operation and ensure the fire does not reignite.

The affected area, located close to the Regional Police Headquarters, saw heightened activity as emergency responders worked to contain the situation and protect adjoining properties.

Fire officers remain on site monitoring developments while cooling operations continue.

As of now, there is no official information regarding casualties, injuries, or the extent of damage caused by the fire.

The Greater Accra Regional Fire Officer, Rashid Kwame Nisawu, assured the public that the situation was under control and that there was no further threat to neighbouring buildings.

He said investigations were underway to unravel the exact cause of the incident and establish any lapses that may have contributed to the outbreak.

He emphasised that the findings of the investigation would guide any necessary corrective actions and help prevent future occurrences, reaffirming the Fire Service’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

More updates to follow.
