Cape Coast (C/R), June 17, GNA– The decomposed body of a 17-year-old final year student of the Mfantsipim School has been found in an uncompleted building at North OLA in Cape Coast.
The deceased, Emmanuel Arthur, was reportedly found hanging with a cloth tied around his neck on Wednesday, June 11 around 16:45 hours.
Chief Inspector Evans Isaac Ettie, the Public Relations Officers of the Central Regional Police Command, confirmed in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the student committed suicide.
According to him, the body was discovered by a carpenter working on the building, who promptly reported the incident.
Police investigators swiftly went to the scene with the complainant and retrieved a black bag containing a 2026 Geography mock paper marked with Emmanuel’s name, along with two mobile phones and some other personal belongings.
He noted that the Mfantsipim School was immediately contacted, and the authorities confirmed the identity of the student.
Pathologists at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital declared the body decomposed and the scene was fumigated by the Environmental Health Directorate of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly before releasing the remains to the family.
The family has since buried the body due to the state in which it was.
The incident has thrown the Mfantsipim School into a state of shock, with classmates and teachers mourning the loss of a student described as quiet and academically driven.
Chief Inspector Ettie assured that the police were actively investigating the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
