Kintampo (Bono East), Sept. 14, GNA – Stray cattle have turned the compound of the Kintampo Municipal Assembly (M/A) Basic School into a kraal, disrupting teaching and learning activities at the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
Mr D. T. Francis, Headmaster of the school, described the situation as worrying, saying pupils were compelled to sweep cow dung from the school compound every morning before classes could begin.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kintampo, Mr Francis expressed concern that some cattle herders in the area gather their animals in the school compound every evening, effectively turning the educational facility into a holding ground for livestock.
He said despite several attempts by the school authorities to engage the herders in dialogue, the problem persisted.
Mr Francis noted that whenever it rained, the animals competed with pupils for shelter, creating an unhealthy and unconducive environment for academic work.
He said the matter had been officially reported to the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly and the Kintampo North Municipal Directorate of Education, but no action had yet been taken to address the challenge.
Mr Francis appealed to the relevant authorities and other stakeholders to support the school by taking measures to prevent the animals from entering the compound.
He said such interventions would help improve sanitation and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
