Accra, June 03, GNA – Parliament has formally congratulated Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, on her election as Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), a role that confers ministerial status and diplomatic privileges across Africa.Â
Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin announced the development on the Floor of the House on Tuesday while reading a formal communication dated May 1, 2026, from PAP President, Dr. Fateh Boutbig.
The letter informed Parliament of Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election and extended congratulations to the Government and people of Ghana.
According to the communication, the new Vice President “enjoys ministerial status not only in the host country South Africa but also across the African continent” under African Union protocols governing PAP.
It said the office comes with an official vehicle, VIP protection, state protocol services, financial support, an official office, and support staff to aid her continental duties.
Speaker Bagbin immediately directed Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk to Parliament, to contact the PAP Secretariat for requirements and ensure all entitlements were provided.
“Honourable Members, I direct the Clerk to get in touch with the Pan-African Parliament to get the details of these requirements and to proceed to ensure that they are provided to the Vice President,” he stated. “On your behalf, I want to congratulate her. Congratulations, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings,” drawing “hear, hear” from the House.
The Speaker also praised Ghana’s entire PAP delegation, noting the country secured five key positions in recent elections.
Alongside Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings as Vice President, First Deputy Speaker Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South, was elected to the Rules Committee. Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and
Minority Chief Whip, was named Chairman of the Health Committee while Mr Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, NDC MP for South Dayi, and the Majority Chief Whip secured a spot on the Finance Committee, with Mr Collins Dauda, NDC MP for Asutifi South and Chairman of the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, was elected to the Trade Committee.
“Ghana secured five key positions within the Pan-African Parliament, underscoring the country’s growing influence in continental legislative affairs.
“The delegation excelled in the deliberations of the Pan-African Parliament. It is important that we convey our greatest congratulations to the delegation and encourage others to follow this good example,” Mr Bagbin said.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ elevation marks a milestone for Ghana’s parliamentary diplomacy, placing the country at the center of leadership in the Pan-African Parliament, the legislative arm of the African Union mandated to promote integration, good governance, and democratic accountability across Africa.
