War, (UW/R), June 16, GNA – The Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) has launched its 2026 Open Day Exhibition and Mini Trade Fair to showcase the innovations, skills and entrepreneurial capabilities of its students to the public.

The five-day event, spanning from Monday, June 15 to Friday, June 19, 2026, is being held under the theme: “TVET: A Tool for National Development Through Industrialisation and Entrepreneurship.”

Speaking at the launch, Professor Hamidatu Saaka Darimani, the Vice Chancellor of DHLTU, reiterated the university’s commitment to producing “critical-thinking graduates” who could innovate to solve practical problems and create opportunities for themselves and others.

“We want our students to leave this university not only with certificates but with confidence and competence to establish businesses, support industries, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

She cited the DHLTU’s winning of the prestigious Best Research Paper Award at the 2026 Applied Research Conference for Technical Universities in Ghana in May 2026 as a reflection of the university’s dedication and academic excellence.

Prof. Darimani urged members of the public to visit the school to explore the exhibition throughout the week to enable them to appreciate the creativity and innovations of the students at the university.

Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, indicated that the President John Mahama-led government had prioritised Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as part of efforts to create job opportunities for the youth.

“Technical education is the way to go. It makes you self-employable, you are innovative, and you can create your entrepreneurship skills, leading to you being an employer instead of an employee,” he said.

He commended the DHLTU for prioritising practical technical education and training and encouraged the public, especially Senior High School graduates, to take advantage of the practical skills training to enroll at DHLTU.

Dr Martin Donani, the Director of TVET at the DHLTU, said the exhibition was designed to showcase the unique values, expertise and innovative inventions of DHLTU in problem solving.

He added that the initiative also sought to present the various departments at the university to prospective students and parents.

The exhibition included a wide range of innovations across various departments, such as bicycles, vases, jewelry, portraits and other handcrafted items from the Department of Industrial Arts.

The Information Communication and Technology Department showcased two software applications – Academic TUG Arena, a learning game designed for basic school students, and Smart Study Hub, an application that converts lecture notes into questions to aid tertiary students in their studies.

Also, the Fashion Design and Textiles Department exhibited a dress made entirely from guinea fowl feathers, alongside sandals, a recycled material gown, raincoats, and beaded bags.

The Agricultural Engineering Department exhibited organic insecticides, movable metallic parboiling equipment, and a Dawadawa cotyledon and debris separator, among other innovations.

There were also exhibitions from the Electrical Engineering Department, Mechanical Engineering Department and the Department of Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management and Hotel, Catering, and Institutional Management Department.
