Ho, Sept. 4, GNA- The Volta Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially launched its fourth Media Awards, marking the return of the prestigious event after a temporary suspension forced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The awards scheme is designed to celebrate the excellence, dedication, and hard work of media personnel across the region.
It highlights the critical contributions of Journalists to both regional advancement and overall national development.
The award is scheduled for October 31, 2026, at Skyplus Hotel and Resort in Ho, and will be held under the theme: “Harnessing Ghana’s Tourism Potential for the Future: Positioning Volta Region as the New Frontier.”
The official opening date for entries is slated between Monday, September 7, 2026, to Friday, October 2, 2026.
The eligible participants are media practitioners working in the Volta Region across print, electronic, and online platforms, and submissions must cover works published or broadcast between January 1, 2020, and August 30, 2026.
The awards will recognise excellence in the following categories: Sports, Education, Business/Economics, Gender/Disability, Health/Environment/Science, Agriculture, Tourism and Arts, Community Reporting, and Best Radio/TV Programme
Other categories include Best Student Journalist of the Year, which is open to students of accredited journalism and communication institutions.
The rest are, GJA/Ras Muta Most Promising Journalist of the Year, GJA/ James Gunu Journalist of the Year, and Special Recognition Awards.
Participants are encouraged to ensure that all their entries are original, clear, and properly published work, and one work should not be submitted in more than one award category.
They must also ensure that all entries bear the awards category, in addition to personal details, media house, and contact information of the applicant.
Participants are also urged to make their submissions in both electronic and hardcopy formats, soft copies through the Association’s email [email protected] and hardcopies should be delivered to the Administrator, Volta GJA Secretariat, Press Centre, Ho.
Dr Harrison Belly, Chairman of the Volta GJA, speaking at the launch noted that the Association reserved the right not to confer an award in any category where submissions do not merit recognition.
He said members of the Regional Executive and the Awards Committees were not eligible to file for the awards.
Dr Belly said the awards aim to honour journalists and media practitioners whose impactful stories and professional conduct continue to shape public policy and uphold accountability.
The Awards will be overseen by the vetting and planning committees, with the vetting committee chaired by Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, Mr Kwame Senyo (member) and Mr Benjamin K. Aklama (member).
The Planning Committee is chaired by Mr Hubert Mawuli Yevu-Agbi, while other members are Mr Lambert Atsivor, Mr Elorm Yao Ayee, Mr King Freeman Nutsukpoe, Mr Charles Suglo, Mrs Yvonne Harlley Kanyi, Mr Kafui Gati, and Madam Sumaya Saeed Salifu.
