Central Tongu NPP Chairmanship Hopeful Promises Reforms and Member Welfare

By Kekeli K. Blamey

Adidome (V/R), July 26, GNA – Mr Fiagbenu Guggisberg, an aspiring Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Central Tongu, has pledged to rebuild, reunite and strengthen the party to enhance its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 general election.

Addressing party delegates and supporters as part of his campaign, Mr Guggisberg said his decision to contest the chairmanship position was driven by a desire to address challenges confronting the party and create opportunities for members.

He expressed concern about what he described as growing disunity within the party and the lack of employment opportunities for some loyal members during the party’s previous administration.

Mr Guggisberg cited instances where qualified party members who had successfully completed tertiary education and passed professional examinations were unable to secure employment despite the party being in government.

“We deserve better than empty promises and the status quo. Progress requires action and change requires your voice,” he stated.

The aspiring chairman said one of his key priorities would be to collaborate with party stakeholders to establish the first permanent constituency office to improve administration and coordination of party activities.

On welfare, he pledged to introduce a structured welfare scheme to support members during periods of illness, bereavement, and other difficult circumstances.

Mr Guggisberg highlighted his past support for party members, including assistance with hospital bills, funeral arrangements and financial aid to bereaved families, as evidence of his commitment to the welfare of members.

He also promised to support families of party members who lost their lives and those who sustained injuries during the constituency campaign launch accident at Kpedzeglo.

The aspiring chairman stressed the need for unity within the party, describing it as a critical ingredient for inclusiveness, effective mobilisation and electoral success.

He further outlined plans to develop strategies aimed at making the NPP more attractive to the electorate in the constituency, increasing voter support and securing the election of the party’s first Member of Parliament for Central Tongu.

Mr Guggisberg said he would also lobby for employment opportunities for party members when the NPP returns to power, adding that such opportunities would help sustain the proposed welfare fund.

He appealed to delegates to support his candidature in the constituency elections scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2026.

“Let us work together to build a stronger and brighter Central Tongu NPP and position the party to recapture power in 2028,” he said.
