Kpetoe (V/R), June 16, GNA – The Chiefs and people of the Agotime and Ziope Traditional Areas have honoured Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister for Health, for his efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the Agotime-Ziope District and across the country.
The traditional authorities presented the Minister with a woven kente cloth as a token of appreciation for the Government’s continued investment in strengthening healthcare services in the district.
The honour was conferred during a working visit, where Mr Akandoh also officially launched the Government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at expanding access to essential healthcare services for all citizens.
Nene Nuer Keteku IV, Paramount Chief of the Agotime Traditional Area, commended the Minister for his commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and advancing reforms in the health sector.
He noted that government interventions were making a positive impact and improving access to healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable populations.
The Paramount Chief appealed to the Minister to support the construction of a district hospital to address the growing healthcare needs of residents and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
“We appreciate the efforts being made to improve healthcare delivery in our district, but we also look forward to the establishment of a modern district hospital to serve our growing population,” he said.
Mr Alfred Eklu Odikro, District Chief Executive for Agotime-Ziope, also expressed appreciation to the Minister for his support towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and services in the district.
He said government interventions, including the retooling of health facilities, had significantly improved service delivery and enhanced access to healthcare.
Mr Odikro further called for sustained support to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the area.
Mr Akandoh expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system through strategic investments and innovative programmes.
He explained that the Free Primary Healthcare Programme was designed to remove financial barriers that prevent people from seeking timely medical care and to ensure equitable access to essential services.
The Minister said the programme would strengthen preventive healthcare, promote community-based health services, and improve health outcomes nationwide.
He assured the chiefs and people of Agotime-Ziope of Government’s resolve to improve healthcare infrastructure and deliver quality healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
The event highlighted the collaboration between Government and traditional authorities in advancing healthcare development and improving community well-being.
