Accra, June 23, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana boosted their chances of qualifying for the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after holding England’s Three Lions to a goalless draw at the Boston Stadium.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz adopted a disciplined 5-4-1 defensive system, which proved effective in neutralising England’s attacking threats throughout the match.

In the first half, Ghana’s defensive setup made it difficult for the Three Lions to break through, with central defenders Jonas Adjetey and Eric Opoku dominating aerial duels against the English attack.

Despite sustained pressure from England, goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was rarely troubled in the first half and did not have to make any crucial saves.

England’s talisman Harry Kane was largely subdued, with his only notable effort in the opening half blocked by the resolute Ghanaian defence.

The Black Stars returned from the break with improved ball control, enjoying some spells of possession and frustrating their opponents.

Ghana’s defensive discipline continued to unsettle the English side, who struggled to find clear scoring opportunities.

Benjamin Asare was finally called into action in the 57th minute, producing a fine save to deny Eric Gordon.

Coach Queiroz later introduced Fatawu Issahaku and Prince Adu Kwabena to add fresh energy in attack.

England increased their urgency in the closing stages, with Harry Kane testing Asare in the 69th minute, but the Ghanaian goalkeeper Asare was equal to the task.

Prince Adu Kwabena came close to snatching a winner for Ghana but failed to convert a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Kane also missed a glorious opportunity from close range, while substitute Oppong Peprah made a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve Ghana’s clean sheet.

The result leaves Ghana and England on four points with both teams in a strong position to securing qualification to the Round of 32.
