Accra, May 12, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation leading to the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp and the interception of an alleged GH¢100,000 bribery attempt.

A press release issued by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, Public Relations Officer of the Command, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) acted on a tip-off on May 10, 2026, regarding narcotics allegedly being stored at Akosombo-Bonya.

During a surveillance operation near Krobo Girls Senior High School, officers intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 and tracked it to a secluded location near Atua Government Hospital.

Police reportedly intervened while suspects were transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda tipper truck with registration number GN 7948-21, the release said.

Although the initial group fled into the bush, officers secured both vehicles and the suspected narcotics.

It said shortly after the seizure, a suspect identified as Solomon Tettey, a 39-year-old welder and resident of Atua, approached the officers and claimed ownership of both the vehicles and the suspected narcotics consignment, which he allegedly said was destined for Nigeria.

The release said Tettey attempted to compromise the investigation by offering the officers a bribe of GH¢100,000.

Police personnel reportedly feigned interest in the offer in order to secure evidence of the attempted bribery.

The suspect subsequently transferred GH¢90,000 via Mobile Money and handed over an additional GH¢10,000 in cash.

The release said upon receipt of the money, officers from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), with support from the Odumase Police, moved in and arrested Solomon Tettey.

Two other suspects, identified as Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later arrested after they surfaced at the Regional Headquarters.

The suspects, together with the exhibits, have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations and possible prosecution.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to integrity and the fight against drug trafficking syndicates operating within the region.
