Tamale, May 04, GNA – Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, has assured constituents of improved road network in the area to enhance access and improved livelihoods.

He said road infrastructure was key to development and would enhance economic activities in the area, hence his focus on improved road networks in the constituency.

He emphasized that “When you tar a road, it creates opportunities for businesses and improves livelihoods.”

Professor Seidu gave the assurance when he inspected ongoing road projects in the Gumbihini and Agric-Mohiyabihi Electoral Areas in the constituency.

The inspection was to assess progress of work and ensure timely completion.

The road projects were initiated by Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, immediate past Member of Parliament for the constituency, who died in a helicopter crash on August 06, last year.

Professor Seidu said “As part of our campaign, we were clear that we would continue his (Alhaji Muhammed) legacy and ensure completion of all projects.”

He commended the contractor, officials from the Department of Urban Roads and Tamale Central National Democratic Congress constituency executives for ensuring progress of work.

Mr Ahamed Yussif, Project Manager said about 90 per cent of work on the roads had been completed with only road line markings and minor finishing works remaining, adding the project would be ready by June, this year.

He said the project formed part of efforts to improve urban mobility and drainage in the constituency and was closely supervised to ensure quality standards.

He said efforts were also ongoing to link parts of the road to the Kumbungu Road to make connections to various towns motorable.
