EPCG to Elect a New Moderator

By Emmanuel Nyatsikor

Ho, May 4 (GNA) — The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) will elect a new Moderator at its 12th General Assembly.

The General Assembly is scheduled to take place in Ho from August 12 to August 15 this year.

This follows the impending end of the tenure of the current Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko, whose term of office will end on December 31 this year.

The Ho East Presbytery Moderator of the Church, Rev. Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Akuamoah-Boateng (Rtd), disclosed this at a one-day Extraordinary Synod of the Presbytery held in Ho.

The Synod was held on the theme: “Cleanliness is next to Godliness – Keep clean.”

It was attended by delegates from all pastoral districts, schools, and groups of the Church.

Rev. CSP Akuamoah-Boateng called on members of the Church to continue praying for God to provide a worthy successor to the current Moderator.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Agbeko was elected Moderator at the Church’s ninth General Assembly on August 22, 2020, in Ho, and was inducted into office on January 10, 2021, as the Church’s third Moderator under the General Assembly system.

He was later elected Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana on May 21, 2025.

He was also appointed on July 11, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, as a member of the All-Africa Council of Churches’ Eminent Persons Ecumenical Programme for Peace in Africa.

One of his notable legacies is the establishment of the Prima Natural Mineral Water for the Church.

On Saturday, August 23, 2008, the Church transitioned from the Synodal Concept of Church Polity to the General Assembly Concept, ushering into a new leadership structure.

As a result, the head of the Church now bears the title “Moderator of the General Assembly” and serves a single six-year term.
