Spintex, May 11, GNA – Right To Be Free, a non-governmental organisation, has presented popcorn machines and other start-up items to selected Ghanaian returnees under the ECOWAS-Ghana Joint Support Project on Persons of Concern (POCs).

The initiative, sponsored by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and supported by the government of Ghana through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Refugee Board, aims to support the reintegration of returnees through small business start-ups.

Mr Eric Peasah, Director of Right To Be Free, who presented the items to 12 beneficiaries in the Greater Accra Region, said the gesture was intended to restore hope and create livelihood opportunities for the beneficiaries.

“As we say in Ghana, ‘little by little, the bird builds its nest.’ What we are giving today may appear small, but with hard work and commitment, it can grow into something significant,” he said.

Mr Peasah encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment and apply the skills acquired to improve their livelihoods and positively impact their communities.

He explained that the six-month ECOWAS-Ghana Joint Support Project on Persons of Concern provided skills training and equipment to help beneficiaries establish or expand small businesses.

Dr Nasibatu Taohiru Seallah, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Refugee Board, urged beneficiaries to utilise the donated equipment and skills effectively.

She said the initiative represented an important step from dependency to economic productivity.

According to her, the use of the equipment could help beneficiaries create jobs, stimulate local economic activity, and reduce reliance on formal employment opportunities.

Madam Grace Akua Pomah, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the sponsors and partners for the support.

She said the intervention would significantly improve their livelihoods and help them become economically independent.

Right To Be Free is an NGO operating in Ghana and focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of trafficked children and victims of modern-day slavery.

The organisation also supports education, vocational training, and micro-loan initiatives for vulnerable families.
