Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Sept. 04, GNA – Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, in collaboration with the Amansie West District Health Directorate, has organised a two-day capacity-building training programme for 40 health professionals from the Amansie West and Amansie South districts of the Ashanti Region.
The training forms part of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, aimed at contributing to the health and wellbeing of people within its operational communities.
The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of selected specialised health professionals, particularly midwives and physician assistants, and equip them with relevant knowledge and skills to improve the quality, efficiency and accessibility of healthcare delivery in the two districts.
Mr Prince Manu Morris, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie West, who opened the workshop, stressed the need for continuous professional development to equip health professionals with new skills to discharge their duties.
He pointed out that continuous professional development and regular skills training in the healthcare sector, was very essential to improving healthcare delivery.
Mr Manu encouraged the participating health professionals to take full advantage of the programme and actively participate in all the sessions to gain practical knowledge that could be applied in their respective health facilities.
The DCE said the knowledge and skills acquired should translate into improved patient care and better healthcare outcomes for residents of Amansie West and Amansie South.
He commended Asanko Gold Ghana Limited and the District Health Directorate for initiating the programme and expressed appreciation for the company’s continued support towards the development and wellbeing of communities within the area.
Mr Manu said the Assembly recognised the critical role of healthcare professionals in the development of the districts and would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen healthcare delivery.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to building strong partnerships with corporate institutions, development partners and other stakeholders whose interventions contributed to improving the living conditions of residents.
The training forms part of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, through which the company supports initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing and development of communities within its operational areas.
The company’s support for the capacity-building programme is intended to complement the efforts of the Ghana Health Service by strengthening the professional competencies of frontline health workers.
The initiative also underscores the importance of collaboration between mining companies, local authorities and health institutions in addressing healthcare needs and improving service delivery in mining communities and surrounding areas.
Through the programme, the beneficiaries are expected to update their knowledge on modern approaches to healthcare practice, enabling them to provide more effective and quality services to patients.
Facilitator highlights changing healthcare landscape
Dr Abenaa Yawson, the Specialist Consultant and lead facilitator for the programme, said the medical and midwifery professions had undergone significant changes over the years, creating the need for health professionals to continuously update their knowledge and skills.
She said emerging challenges in healthcare, coupled with advances in technology and modern medical practices, required healthcare professionals to remain abreast of current developments.
Dr Yawson emphasised the need for paramedics and other specialised health professionals to embrace modern best practices and technological innovations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery.
She described the training as timely, saying it would provide participants with an opportunity to enhance their professional competencies and improve the standard of care provided at their respective facilities.
