Over 3,700 candidates write WASSCE across seven schools in Keta Municipality

Keta (V/R), May 14, GNA-A total of 3,722 candidates are writing the ongoing 2026 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) across seven senior high schools in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region. 

The schools include Ketasco, Ketabusco, Afiasec, Aborsco, Anyasko, Tsiamesco and Atiasec in the municipality. 

Mr Ferdinand Amuzu, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service at Keta, disclosed that candidates comprise 1,753 males and 1,969 females, which reflected the growing student population in the area and the increasing interest for senior secondary school education.   

“Keta Senior High Technical School, Ketasco, has registered the highest number of 1,706 candidates, comprising 917 males and 789 females, which make it the largest examination centre in the municipality,” he said. 

He explained that Keta Business Senior High School, (Ketabusco), also registered a total of 876 candidates, which made up of 314 males and 562 females, with females outnumbering males by a significant margin.   

Mr Amuzu said that Abor Senior High School registered third highest number of 516 candidates, consisting of 231 males and 285 females which further underlined the dominance of female candidates across most centres.   

“Afiadenyigba Senior High School entered 242 candidates, 94 males and 148 females, while Anyako Senior High School recorded 222 candidates, comprising 98 males and 124 females.” 

He emphasised that Atiavi Senior High School had 104 candidates, with 70 males and 34 females, and Tsiame Senior High School recorded the smallest candidature with 56 candidates, made up of 29 males and 27 females.   

Mr Amuzu stated that the examination is progressing smoothly across all seven centres, and expressed satisfaction with the organisation, supervision, and compliance observed by students since the exercise began.   

He advised candidates to strictly adhere to WASSCE rules and regulations, and warned that any breach could have serious consequences, and urged them to approach each paper with a calm and focused mindset.   

He added that, “Do not entertain any fear, go forth and shine and raise the flag of Keta high,” while expressing confidence that the students were well prepared and capable of excelling in the examination. 

A visit by the Ghana News Agency, to some examination centers, observed the present of security personnel, invigilators, examination supervisors among others who are ensuring the exercise is conducted under smooth and successful environment. 

Some candidates including Charity Asiedu and Michael Agbenyegah, of Ketasco and Ketabusco respectively, who spoke to GNA expressed optimism about successful examinations and results. 

The 2026 WASSCE, which commenced with practical on April 7, is expected to end on Friday, June 19.
