Oti Regional House of Chiefs Targets Chieftaincy Disputes to Restore Peace in Nkwanta South

Dambai, May 8, GNA – The Oti Regional House of Chiefs has identified chieftaincy disputes as a major factor behind the persistent conflict in Nkwanta South Municipality and has pledged to address the issue of restoring peace in the area.

Nana Soglo Alloh IV, the President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Likpe Traditional Area, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA)

Nana Alloh IV stressed that peace remains essential for economic and social development in the municipality, where farming, trading, and educational activities have been disrupted by recurring violence.

We are determined to restore peace in Nkwanta South. Once the chieftaincy issues are resolved, communities can live together peacefully and concentrate on development,” he said.

He also urged the youth to exercise restraint and avoid acts that could escalate tensions while mediation efforts are ongoing.

The Paramount Chief further appealed to security agencies to maintain their presence in the area to support the peace process and prevent further disturbances.

He called on residents to channel their grievances through lawful and traditional structures instead of resorting to violence.

The Oti Regional House of Chiefs, established in 2019 following the creation of the Oti Region, is mandated to promote, preserve, and safeguard traditional institutions, as well as settle chieftaincy disputes within the region.
