NPP members in Tarkwa demand independent probe into polling station elections

Tarkwa (W/R), May 29, GNA-Some aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency have called for an independent investigation into the conduct of the party’s recent polling station elections.

The group has also demanded the annulment of results and processes deemed to have  breached the party’s electoral guidelines.

Addressing a press conference in Tarkwa, Mr Ampoful Adu Narkaah, convenor for the group, said the NPP in preparation towards strengthening its internal democratic structures ahead of the 2028 elections, announced an electoral process to elect party executives at various levels beginning from the polling station.

He said to safeguard the credibility, transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness of the exercise, the party introduced clear rules and guidelines to govern the conduct of the process.

He said regrettably, what had unfolded in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency was contrary to the established rules and guidelines.

Mr Narkaah said from the registration exercise through to  the filing of nominations, vetting processes, and polling station elections, several committed party members have suffered unjustifiable exclusion, arbitrary disqualifications and intimidation at the hands of some constituency executives and individuals entrusted with supervising the process.

He further said concerns raised by the affected members were ignored, while complaints and petitions submitted through the appropriate internal channels received no meaningful attention from both the constituency and regional leadership of the party.

“These developments have created widespread dissatisfaction, mistrust, division, and a growing sense of injustice among party faithful within the constituency.

“By following these unfortunate developments, we have come to the firm conclusion that the electoral process conducted within the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency has not been fair, transparent, credible, or inclusive,” he indicated.

“Consequently, the integrity and legitimacy of the entire exercise have been seriously compromised,” he stressed.

He added  the group’s  actions were not intended to undermine the party, but rather to defend the democratic principles, fairness, transparency, and unity upon which the NPP was founded.

He said they firmly believed that genuine unity could not be achieved where injustice, intimidation, exclusion, and manipulation were allowed to prevail, adding, “we believe the NPP is anchored on democratic ideals and has respect for due process.”

The convenor insisted that they wanted fresh and transparent elections in all areas within the constituency in accordance with the polling station election guidelines, under the trusted supervision of the National Elections Committee.

“Equal treatment, fairness, and protection for all party members irrespective of factional affiliations.”

He called on the national leadership of the party and all relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene to restore confidence in the process and preserve unity within the party at the constituency level.
