Ho, Aug. 12, GNA – Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has commended the Catholic Hospital at Battor for its dedicated service to humanity, describing the institution as a beacon of hope, compassion, and excellence in healthcare.
Mr Gunu gave the commendation at the launch of the Hospital’s 70th Anniversary celebration at Battor in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The launch was on the theme: “Continuing Christ’s Mission Through Exceptional Healthcare.”
Mr Gunu congratulated the Catholic Church, management, and staff of the Hospital for their invaluable contribution to healthcare delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.
He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving healthcare through initiatives including MahamaCare, improved healthcare infrastructure, and expanded medical services.
The Minister assured faith-based and other healthcare institutions of the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to collaboration to improve access to quality healthcare.
Mr Gunu also commended the hospital’s GH¢3.3 million Legacy Theatre Project, calling on individuals, corporate organisations, development partners, and other stakeholders to support the construction of the modern surgical theatre, which is expected to enhance surgical care and save lives.
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, expressed profound appreciation to the Catholic Church for establishing and sustaining the hospital for seven decades.
The MP described the hospital as a premier health facility serving North Tongu, the Volta Region and beyond.
Mr Ablakwa highlighted its contributions to specialist care, particularly in gynaecology, cervical cancer prevention and management, and paediatric services.
He highlighted ongoing government interventions to improve access to the hospital, including the Sege–Aveyime–Battor road project, while assuring residents of continued efforts to support the hospital’s expansion.
The 70th Anniversary celebration provides an opportunity to honour the missionaries, health professionals, administrators, and workers whose sacrifices have sustained the Hospital, while mobilising support for its next phase of growth.
The anniversary launch formed part of a programme that also included a Holy Mass, goodwill messages, the launch of the Anniversary Calendar, and a fundraising appeal for the Legacy Theatre Project.
