Agona Swedru (C/R), May 11, GNA – Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Nifahene of Agona Swedru, has implored the new headmaster of Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) to instil more discipline in the students to reduce violence which had affected academic performance.
Nana Esieni, who is also the Regent of Agona Swedru, revealed that the school had produced many scholars and high-profile personalities excelling in the country and beyond, and there was the need to maintain the high standards.
Nana Esieni made the call when Mr William Awumee, the new headmaster paid a courtesy call to officially introduce himself to Swedruman Council of Chiefs at Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.
Nana Esieni expressed concern about the growing indiscipline and indecent dressing among the students which needed to be checked to maintain the respect and recognition formerly accorded the students of the school.
’’The image and glory of SWESBUS had gone down and Nananom are not happy about the current situation prevailing; therefore, we encourage you to use your expertise to reverse it for the better’’ Nana Esieni emphasised.
He noted that the old students both home and abroad were eager to support their alma mater to aid quality education.
He therefore urged Mr Awumee to link all old students on different platforms up to help in that regard.
The regent cited the Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO) as an example where old students both home and abroad came together to provide numerous assistance to support structures and academic development of their alma mater, adding that every year SWESCO commissions bungalows for tutors mostly built by the old students.
The Nifahene said Swedruman Council of Chiefs were ready and prepared to give support to the headmaster, tutors and other administrative staff to boost discipline and academic performance of the school.
Nana Kweku Kakari II, Bamuhene of Agona Swedru and Chairman of the Educational Committee of the Council, regretted that the image of SWESBUS had gone down to the extent that BECE candidates of some Swedru schools had refused to select it as their first-choice school.
He appealed to Mr Awumee to endeavour to reverse the negative trend that had affected the once prestigious school which had produced many high-profile personalities with positions in the military, police, Immigration, teaching and many others.
Mr Awumee, on his part acknowledged the indiscipline and indecent dressing among the students and gave the assurance that he would use his experience and expertise and with the help of Swedruman Council, change the situation.
He expressed gratitude to the chiefs for the unwavering support given to him since he assumed office two months ago and hoped that as traditional rulers and custodians of the land. they would continue play vital roles in enforcing discipline in the school.
The headmaster assured the Chiefs that plans and preparations were advanced to organise a home coming this year to serve as a platform and opportunity to get everybody on board to boost both academic and infrastructural development of the school.
