Winneba(C/R), May 01, GNA – Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to cultural preservation and community development with a GH₵20,000 donation to support this year’s Aboakyer Festival.
The presentation, which took place at the palace in Winneba, saw MTN hand over a cheque of GH₵20,000, MTN airtime worth GH₵1,000 and drinks hamper to the Efutu Traditional Council.
Mr Prince Owusu Nyarkoh, the Regional Senior Manager for South and West Business Region, led the company’s delegation to pay homage to the Paramount Chief of Efutu, Neenyi Ghartey VII and his elders.
Mr. Nyarkoh in his remarks during the presentation, noted that the Aboakyer Festival had over the years remained a powerful symbol of unity, valour, and deep-rooted heritage in the warrior traditions of the Efutu people.
“This year, as you celebrate, we join you in honouring a legacy that embraces both the old and the new, uniting generations under the banner of art and heritage,” he stated.
MTN Ghana has consistently supported the Efutu Festival over the years, reflecting what Mr Nyarkoh described as the company’s “unwavering commitment to delighting customers and making their lives a whole lot brighter.”
He emphasised the importance of traditional festivals in Ghana’s cultural and economic landscape.
“We believe festivals play a vital role in preserving Ghana’s cultural identity while contributing significantly to local tourism and economic development.
“They provide a platform to showcase the uniqueness of our communities, promote unity, and attract visitors and investment opportunities that benefit local businesses and artisans,” he explained.
“Our donation today reaffirms our deep appreciation for your support, patronage, and loyalty to MTN,” Mr. Nyarkoh concluded.
In recognition of MTN’s continuous support, Neenyi Ghartey VII, Efutu Paramount Chief, commended the company for its dedication to community development.
He praised MTN for being a true development partner and for consistently showing commitment to the growth and cultural vibrancy of the Efutu community.
He noted that MTN’s presence and contribution over the years had brought significant improvement to both the festival and the well-being of the people.
“We thank you for the opportunity to be part of this cherished tradition and look forward to yet another memorable Efutu,” Neenyi Ghartey noted.
The Aboakyer Festival, celebrated annually in the first Saturday of May, is one of Ghana’s most vibrant traditional festivals. It commemorates the bravery of the Efutu people’s warriors and showcases their rich cultural heritage through music, dance, and traditional military displays.
