Nayagnia (U/E), Sept. 10, GNA – ASA Savings and Loans, a microfinance and financial institution, has donated furniture and a water storage facility to the Nayagnia R/C Primary/Kindergarten (KG) School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality to improve teaching and learning conditions.
The gesture, presented as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), included 30 chairs for the KG pupils, five hexagonal tables, 10 dual desks, a teacher’s table and chair, and a 500 litres polytank for water storage.
At a brief presentation at Nayagnia, Mr Sadik Mohammed, Bolgatanga Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, said the donation formed part of the company’s commitment to supporting communities in which it operated, stressing that its presence in Navarongo was not solely for business purposes.
“We are here to also support our younger ones who are also building up. So, if we can support them with their needs, that will help them to study well,” he said.
He said the company believed that investing in education and the wellbeing of communities would ultimately benefit businesses and society, noting that healthy and educated communities were essential for sustainable economic development.
Mr Mohammed said ASA Savings and Loans had entered Navarongo less than a year ago but had already identified areas where it could support the community.
He disclosed that the company had, about two months earlier, renovated the Nayagnia Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound and provided hospital appliances to help improve healthcare delivery.
He said the company would continue to consider further interventions in the community as resources became available.
Ms Janet Bukari, Headmistress of the Nayagnia R/C Primary/KG School, said the school had faced serious furniture challenges, with three or four pupils sometimes having to share a single dual desk, making writing difficult.
She said the KG section also had inadequate tables, with only about three of its hexagonal tables in good condition to serve 41 learners.
Ms Bukari said the donation would significantly improve the situation and create a more conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
She also welcomed the polytank, explaining that although the school had access to water through a mechanised borehole, it previously lacked a storage facility.
“With the polytank, we can always put the water in and then it will be clean and safe for the learners to drink,” she said.
The Headmistress, however, appealed for additional support to address other challenges, particularly furniture for teachers and the construction of a fence wall around the school.
Mr Norbert Kambonga, School Improvement and Support Officer, commended ASA Savings and Loans for the intervention, saying the development of society was critical to the sustainability of businesses.
He said businesses depended on educated and healthy communities for their future workforce, customers and leaders, and urged the company to sustain its support to the school and community.
