Agona Swedru (C/R), Oct 20, GNA- Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has commissioned a new KG block and mechanised borehole for the Swedru AME Zion (E) Basic School.
Similarly, the MCE commissioned a three-unit classroom block for Agona Odom Junior High School (JHS) which had been a wooden structure for many years.
Addressing parents, guardians, teachers and pupils at separate ceremonies, Mr Gyamfi Odoom said government, under President John Mahama was committed to ensuring that Agona West got its fair share of educational infrastructure for teachers to deliver quality services.
Mr Odoom, who was the immediate past Headmaster of the AME Zion E Basic School, said the management of the school was compelled to convert the library into classroom to house the kids.
He said he decided to construct the KG block soon after his appointment as MCE to establish a better foundation for the children, in addition to the mechanised borehole to stop the payment of water bills which had become a burden to the school authorities.
Mr Gyamfi Odoom stated that the Assembly had allocated funds in the 2027 budget approved by the Regional Coordinating Council, the Ministry of Finance and Members of Agona West Municipal Assembly for the construction of a three-unit classroom block for JHS One to Three to replace the old, dilapidated block currently being used.
The DCE called on the school authorities, the School Management Committees and parents to take good care of new facility as their own property.
Mr Gyamfi Odoom thanked the teacher unions for their acceptance of government’s appeal to call off their strike action and return to the classrooms to teach the children.
Mr Bismark Mfoafo Offei, the Agona West Municipal Director of Education lauded the MCE for fixing the problems of the school to enhance effective teaching and learning.
The Municipal Director of Education said the 72 KG schools in Agona West had no proper infrastructure and further appealed to the MCE to use his good office to help construct new ones to replace dilapidated structures.
Mr Offei also charged parents, guardians and SMCs in the Municipality to rally support for the teachers for them to give of their best.
Rev Thomas Arkoh Acquaah, the Manager of AME Zion schools in Agona Swedru, expressed gratitude to the MCE for giving back to the school with the new block and envisaging to construct another three-unit classroom block.
Rev Acquaah, who is also the Minister of Agona Swedru AME ZION Church, said he was elated that their persistent requests for the new school blocks had been finally answered.
He said parents had been encouraged to send their children to the school, resulting in an increased enrolment.
