Keta (VR), May 8, GNA- Some Arsenal supporters in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, were filled with excitement after the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League final, with many expressing optimisms that the Gunners would end the long wait and lift the trophy for the first time.
The fans across the municipality, most in red and white colours of Arsenal replica jesseys have been flying the flags of the team with renewed pride as they celebrate the historic feat.
Mr Wisdom Agboworkunu, a strong Arsenal fan at Vui, a suburb of Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the qualification alone to the finals was a reward for years of loyalty through trophyless seasons and near-misses, while the faith in the club has felt closer to reality than at any time in the past two decades.
Mr Agboworkunu who is a lifelong Arsenal fan since the Thierry Henry era, told the GNA, that he had not slept properly since the final whistle confirmed the club’s place in the final on May 4, after 1-1 draw against Diego Simeon’s Athletico Madrid.
“I wept with joy, it was tears of joy for waiting for twenty years to get to the UCL grand finale, which finally find a foothold. I believe my beloved Arsenal will defeat the defending champions PSG to lift the trophy,” he said.
Madam Dzifa Shillah, a provision store owner who has since decorated her stall in Arsenal colours, said the current team showed hunger, unity, and resilience for trophy and with the determination, resilience and perseverance as well as qualities exhibited by the coaching staff and players, she believed the team would win the final.
“Many young supporters, many of whom were not born when Arsenal last reached the final in 2006, will see the current achievement as a sense of belonging to a historic moment.”
Several other fans of GNA interacted with praised Manager Mikel Arteta’s patient and methodical rebuilding of the club to achieve one of the biggest milestones in football history which called for collaborative support in the finals.
The supporters also commended the squad’s collective spirit and tactical discipline, which enabled the team to earn its place in the finals through consistent performances rather than luck.
Arsenals defeated Diego Simone’s Spain based Athletico Madrid by 2-1 on goal aggregate to maintain their 100 per cent UCL campaign with 14 round of matches without a defeat in the 2025-2026 season.
Arsenal would face the PSG of France who also defeated German based Bayern Munchen on 6-5 goals aggregate in the finals that would hosted at Puskas Arena, Budapest in the Hungary on Saturday, May, 30.
As the final approaches, Arsenal fans in Keta have called on supporters worldwide to rally behind the team, while declaring that they are not going to the final to participate but to win for the first time in the club’s history and bring the trophy to London.
