Government assures TUC of sustained macroeconomic stability

Kumasi, May 1, GNA – The Government has assured members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of its unwavering commitment to sustaining macroeconomic stability while translating economic gains into improved livelihoods for workers.

It said achieving this goal required deliberate efforts to measure how stability impacted the creation of decent and sustainable jobs, enhanced incomes, and inclusive economic growth.

Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, gave the assurance at the 66th May Day celebration held at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi.

May Day is globally observed to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of workers to national development.

The celebration was on the theme: “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihoods Beyond Macroeconomic Stability.”

Dr Amoakohene said the time had come to shift focus from stabilisation to transformation, ensuring that economic progress benefited every Ghanaian, particularly the hardworking population.

He noted that in the Ashanti region, government continued to prioritise initiatives aimed at boosting local industries, stressing that sustainable livelihoods must begin at the local level.

The Regional Minister said government remained committed to implementing policies and programmes that would stimulate industrial growth and entrepreneurship, support skills development and innovation, and promote job creation, especially for the youth.

He added that efforts were also being made to strengthen social protection systems, enhance labour rights, and improve workplace safety.

Dr Amoakohene acknowledged concerns about existing economic challenges but urged workers to demonstrate increased productivity, professionalism, and strong work ethics to support national development.

He further encouraged constructive dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders on the labour front.

“Development is a shared responsibility, and together, we can build a stronger and more resilient economy,” he said.

Dr Amoakohene called on workers to renew their collective commitment to building an inclusive economy that worked for all.
