Accra, May 26, GNA – Mr Mustapha Ussif, former Minister for Youth and Sports, has denied any wrongdoing in financial irregularities cited in the Auditor-General’s report on the 13th African Games.

Mr Ussif’s response follows the release of a comprehensive audit report by the Ghana Audit Service, which uncovered financial irregularities amounting to more than GH¢580 million in the organisation of games.

The report indicated that financial irregularities amounting to GH¢580,042,347.40 were identified, including overpricing of doping tests, sports equipment, accommodation, vehicle hire contracts, and excessive rental costs.

It also cited overpayments for undelivered and unverified sports equipment, payments unrelated to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), and lapses in accounting for donations received for the Games.

A statement signed by Mr Ussif said he was ready to respond to findings which allegedly attribute various irregularities to him.

He rejected the claims, stating that he was not responsible for any such irregularities, if any existed.

“It is my understanding that the report of the audit will be presented to Parliament and persons who may have answers to findings will be invited to respond accordingly.

“Therefore, I look forward to the opportunity to respond to all the claims of impropriety in the said report,” the statement said.
