Bolgatanga, April 01, GNA – The Upper East Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has acknowledged and honoured UNICEF, a UN development partner for its commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the Region.
At the 2025 Annual Performance review meeting of the Service in the Region, marked by gratitude and a shared vision for the future, the Directorate honoured UNICEF for its unwavering commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery in the Region.
The Directorate, led by Dr Braimah Baba Abubakari, the Regional Director of Health Services, recognized UNICEF as a cornerstone of development whose contributions bridged critical gaps in the healthcare delivery system.
The Directorate highlighted three primary pillars of UNICEF’s intervention that fundamentally reshaped the health landscape in the Region over the years.
It recalled UNICEF’s direct provision of essential medical tools to enhance diagnostic, treatment capabilities, and its intensive training programmes designed to empower the health workforce with modern clinical skills, and implementation of forward-thinking strategies to tackle long-standing health challenges.
Management of the GHS further recognized that the impact of UNICEF’s partnership was most visible in the specialized care provided to the Region’s most vulnerable populations.
The citation specifically lauded UNICEF’s role in enhancing maternal and adolescent health, improving outcomes for mothers and young people through targeted outreach and clinical support, strengthened services that ensured children had healthy start in life.
The citation further noted that UNICEF ensured that even the most remote communities in the Region had a reliable point of entry into the medical system, “UNICEF’s efforts have significantly improved community health and system’s resilience,” it read in parts.
The Directorate in the citation said, “May this acknowledgment stand as a testament to the significant and enduring impact of UNICEF’s development efforts in the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole.”
The citation concluded with a formal “Congratulations” to UNICEF, cementing a partnership that continues to serve as a model for international development and regional cooperation.
The recognition comes at a time when the Directorate is focused on building a resilient health system capable of weathering shocks and maintaining high standards of care.
Management noted that the collaboration with UNICEF did not only save lives in the short term but built a sustainable framework for the future.
