Cape Coast, April 29, GNA – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is mourning the demise of two members of its academic community who were killed in a fatal road accident on Tuesday morning in Cape Coast.

A sombre atmosphere pervaded the University campus on Wednesday when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited as both faculty and students gathered in pairs and groups to lament the tragic loss.

The University, in a statement, confirmed that the deceased were a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning.

They were identified as Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, a Senior Lecturer, and Mr Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant.

The two were tragically ran over by a tipper truck at 3rd Ridge Junction along the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway.

In the statement issued on Wednesday, the University expressed shock and sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The Management of the school described Dr Agyemang as a highly respected member of the University’s academic community, known for his dedication to teaching, research, and service.

“His invaluable contributions and presence will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” the statement said.

“Mr Amoadu-Asmah, on the other hand, was a National Service Person who graduated from the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, UCC, in the previous year.

“He distinguished himself academically as the overall best graduating student of the Department,” it added.

Meanwhile, the school has entreated the public, especially the media, to be circumspect and sensitive in their reportage.
