Hohoe (V/R), April 30, GNA – Mr. Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has reiterated the call for residents of the municipality to prioritise and commit to the payment of property rates and business operating permits.
He said that apart from the District Assemblies Common Fund and other grants, funding for social services within the municipality largely depended on the payment of such rates, which could be channelled into repair works within communities.
Mr. Kumi urged residents not to relent in contributing to the revenue mobilisation drive by engaging with the Assembly, adding that discussions around the rates had been welcomed by many.
He made these remarks while speaking to the media during a Town Hall meeting in Hohoe, which sought to promote and strengthen accountability and support the inclusion of sub-structures and traditional authorities in local governance.
Mr. Kumi stated that all Senior High Schools in the municipality had received sufficient furniture to address deficits for both teachers and students. He added that supplying furniture in excess was intended to ensure that shortages would not occur for a long time.
He further indicated that the GETFund and the Assembly would also supply furniture to basic schools, noting that any classroom block commissioned for use would be fully furnished.
Mr. Kumi revealed that the Assembly would benefit from the government’s One Million Coders project through the receipt of 50 laptops to train beneficiaries. He explained that the initiative aimed to equip participants with skills to generate income.
He also noted that, given the abundance of rice farming in the area, the Assembly had engaged the Ghana Buffer Stock Company to establish a buying centre to purchase rice and maize from local farmers.
Mr. Kumi said the Assembly’s plan to embark on a beautification project across the municipality formed an integral part of its development agenda. This would include the provision of pedestrian walkways, as well as tree planting exercises.
He further admonished residents to take sanitation issues seriously and actively participate in clean-up exercises. He also called on traditional and religious authorities to support the Assembly in mobilising community interest.

Mr. Victor Kovey, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, said academic performance in the municipality had improved from 40 per cent to 61 per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) over the past few years.
He added that school performance had also improved significantly, with about 25 schools recording 100 per cent pass rates in the BECE. He expressed optimism for further improvements in 2026.
Mr. Kovey called on stakeholders within the education sector to support initiatives aimed at achieving even better educational outcomes.
