Accra, April 2, GNA – Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School has been crowned the overall champion of the 2025 FanMilk School Caravan.
The school collected a total of 10,989 FanMilk product wrappers, earning a refurbished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, commissioned last Monday.
The ceremony, held on the school grounds in Nungua, brought together students, teachers, officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES), representatives of the Municipal Assembly, and partners in environmental sustainability.
Launched in 2018, the FanMilk School Caravan is an environmental education initiative aimed at promoting responsible waste disposal and recycling among schoolchildren while encouraging healthy snacking.
In 2025, the programme engaged over 1,000 schools across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Western Regions, reaching more than 507,000 pupils and collecting over 11.2 million wrappers for recycling in partnership with MiniPlast Ghana Limited.
Speaking at the event, Mr Lionel Parent, Managing Director of FanMilk Ghana, said the company’s commitment went beyond product enjoyment to nurturing long-term responsible habits in children.

“We believe that a snack is only truly enjoyed when its wrapper is safely disposed of in a recycling bin. This ICT lab will support learning, nurture curiosity, and equip students with the tools they need to innovate and solve real-world challenges,” he said.
Four other high-performing schools were also recognised with legacy projects for outstanding participation in the campaign.
In the Greater Accra Region, Association Community Model Basic School placed second with 9,485 wrappers and received a refurbished kindergarten playground, while Ashma Tsui-Bleoo No. 2 Basic School, which placed third with 8,905 wrappers, was awarded a new ICT laboratory.
In the Ashanti Region, Maakro M/A Basic School earned an ICT lab after collecting 9,186 wrappers, while in the Western Region, Windo Methodist School received a renovated kindergarten block as its legacy prize.
Representing the Minister for Education, Mr Stephen Kwaku Owusu, Technical Advisor for Pre-Tertiary Education, commended the participating schools for their dedication to environmental stewardship.
“What we are witnessing goes beyond a school competition. These students are learning values that will shape their contributions to Ghana’s development. Protecting the environment is a patriotic responsibility,” he said.
Mrs Oppong-Mensah, National Director of the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), praised the students for championing hygiene and sanitation on their campuses.
“A clean environment is the first line of defence for healthy students. By eradicating millions of wrappers, these pupils have reduced health risks and improved their learning environment,” she said.
Ms Georgina Ahiagba, Headteacher of Quaye Nungua R/C Basic School, expressed gratitude for the recognition and the new facility.

“Our students demonstrated commitment and teamwork throughout the programme. This ICT lab will significantly enhance teaching and learning,” she said.
