Ayanfuri (C/R), April 24, (GNA) — Perseus Mining Ghana Limited (PMGL) has handed over a newly constructed 120-bed capacity dormitory to the Ayanfuri Senior High School to improve accommodation and enhance teaching and learning.

The fully furnished dormitory, equipped with modern facilities, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting education in its operational communities.

At a brief handing-over ceremony, Mr Alexander Kofi Oduro, General Manager of PMGL, said the facility underscored the company’s commitment to sustainable community development, particularly in education.

He noted that inadequate boarding facilities had been a long-standing challenge for the school, negatively affecting enrolment and academic performance.

“The provision of this dormitory is intended to create a conducive learning environment and ease accommodation pressure on students,” Mr Oduro said.

He added that investment in education remained a key pillar of the company’s stakeholder engagement strategy to foster growth and development.

Ehunabobrim Pra Agyensaim VI, Board Chairman of PMGL, said prioritising education was essential to ensuring that students within the company’s catchment areas received quality education.

He disclosed that PMGL spent GHC1,845,693.57 on the project through its Edikan Trust Fund, which supports development projects in host communities.

He added that the company had also constructed and handed over a kindergarten block, a mechanised water system and a furnished classroom block for the Fobinso community at a cost of GHC998,898.50.

Additionally, PMGL has completed one of the four-unit nurses’ quarters at Fobinso, costing GHC261,058.00, to improve healthcare delivery.

Nana Pra Agyensaim, also the Omanhene of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area, said the company had also constructed four-unit nurses’ quarters for the Gyaman community at a cost of GHC274,238.64.

In all, PMGL has invested about GHC3,379,888.71 through the Fund in development projects across its operational areas, he announced.

Nana Pra Agyensaim advised the management of Ayanfuri SHS to adopt effective management strategies to ensure the facility was properly maintained to enhance teaching and learning.

The Headmistress of Ayanfuri SHS, Reverend Mrs Naomi Owusu-Ansah, expressed gratitude to PMGL for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.

She said the dormitory would significantly reduce congestion in existing hostel facilities and improve student welfare as the school transitions into a full boarding institution.

“This gesture will go a long way to support both students and staff and ultimately contribute to improved academic outcomes,” she said.

Community leaders and residents commended the company for its continuous support and urged other corporate institutions to emulate such initiatives to promote educational development.

The dormitory, which will accommodate female students, is expected to improve access to boarding facilities and reduce the burden on day students who travel long distances to school.

Perseus Mining Ghana Limited has over the years undertaken several development projects in its host communities, particularly in health, education and infrastructure.
