Adaklu Kpatovoe (V/R), Sept. 15 GNA – Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE) Tuesday stated that the abuse of modernity and technology by children was a harbinger to their destruction.
“This is a serious threat to their future development and society and should be a cause of alarm,” he said.
He therefore advised children and young people to refrain from copying everything they see and hear in the name of modernity.
Mr Ameko stated this during the commissioning and handing over of a school block to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Primary School at Adaklu Kpatovoe.
The project, which was funded by GETFUND and cost GHS950,000 to complete, consists of three classrooms, an office, a store and a staff common room.
Each of the classrooms is furnished with 40 modern mono desks provided by the Adaklu District Assembly in collaboration with Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu; and Mr Ameko.
According to Mr Ameko, the project was initiated in 2016 but was abandoned by the previous government.
He noted that the children were the future leaders of the country, so they needed to be groomed to enable them to take up the mantle of leadership.
The DCE stressed that the huge investments made by the government in the education sector were geared towards helping the young ones become self-sufficient and beneficial to society.
He lamented the poor academic performance of schools in the district and urged the District Education Directorate to intensify its monitoring and supervision of teachers in the district.
Mr Ameko, who is also the Dean of the Volta Region’s MDCEs, also called for the revival of all dormant School Management Committees and Parent Teacher Associations to help revert the district to its enviable academic position in the country.
As an educationist himself, he said: “We chose to enter the noble profession of teaching, so let us do it with passion and dedication and be interested in the progression and welfare of our pupils.
“I will henceforth keep teachers on their toes.”
Mr Ameko entreated also parents to continue investing in their children’s education, saying, “the returns on such investments are enormous and gratifying.”
He disclosed that the Assembly and Mr Agbodza have acquired 3000 modern mono desks for distribution to schools in the district.
Mr Ameko continued that another set of 1220 such desks would soon be received to make the lack of furniture in classrooms in the district a thing of the past.
He said the Gbekor and Adaklu Senior High Schools and the Adaklu Technical School would also be beneficiaries of the desks.
The DCE assured the people also that the Assembly, in collaboration with Mr Agbodza was working assiduously to provide all schools in the district with decent classroom blocks and said new and abandoned classroom blocks would soon be completed and handed over to the beneficiary schools.
He stated that the construction of some six-unit teachers’ bungalows was being undertaken in some communities to help ease the accommodation problem facing teachers.
Mr Mac-Peter Dumatonu, the Adaklu District Director of Education, called on teachers to reciprocate the huge investments being made in the education sector by the government by putting in more effort in their teaching and contact hours with the children.
He appealed to the community and the teachers to take good care of the classroom block and the desks to help prolong their lifespans.
“I urge you to develop the culture of maintenance,” he urged.
