Kete-krachi (O/R), April 2, GNA – The Paramount Chief and President of the Krachi Traditional Council, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, has celebrated 25 years of impactful leadership since his enstoolment as Krachiwura.
Known in private life as Mr Joe Como Mprah, he ascended the stool on March 10, 2001, after retiring from the Ghana Police Service as a Commissioner of Police (COP), adopting the stool name Nana Mprah Besemuna III.
The silver jubilee celebration was marked by colourful traditional displays and a strong sense of cultural pride, attracting a distinguished gathering of chiefs, government officials and dignitaries.
Notable attendees included Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Bupewura Abudulai Jinapor II, and Ohenepong Dr Yeboah Asiamah, among other prominent traditional leaders and stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Mprah Besemuna III called for stronger community support, emphasizing that unity remained the foundation of sustainable development.
He urged residents of Kete-Krachi and surrounding communities to deepen cooperation and embrace shared responsibility, stressing that meaningful progress must be people-driven and anchored in peace.
He also appealed to investors and development partners to consider the area for investment, highlighting opportunities in infrastructure development, local enterprise and strategic partnerships that could create jobs and improve livelihoods.
The celebration also highlighted key achievements under his leadership, including spearheading the construction of the Krachi Palace, now a symbol of unity and cultural heritage.
He also served as the first President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs from 2021 to 2024, where he championed the welfare and development of traditional authorities.
Among other milestones, Nana Mprah Besemuna played a pivotal role in advocacy efforts that led to the tarring of major roads in Kete-Krachi in 2002, significantly boosting transportation and economic activity.
He has consistently championed development priorities such as access to potable water, reliable electricity, improved road networks, quality healthcare, education, and public infrastructure.
He was also instrumental in the campaign for the creation of the Oti Region as a member of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), contributing to the successful establishment of the region.
His commitment to education and youth development has been demonstrated through support for schools, promotion of academic excellence, and advocacy for improved educational facilities.
In the health sector, he played a key role in the establishment of the Krachi Midwifery Training School, providing seed funding with support from local groups.
Additionally, his reign has supported the establishment of Kaakye FM to enhance communication and community engagement, promoted self-help initiatives among citizens both at home and in the diaspora and facilitated key projects such as a water treatment plant and the provision of a generator to support essential services.
His leadership has also strengthened traditional governance, improved dispute resolution mechanisms, and promoted peace and stability among diverse communities.
Chairman of the occasion, Ohenepong Dr Yeboah Asiamah, commended the Krachiwura for his steady and impactful leadership over the past 25 years.
He noted that heritage is not only a reflection of the past but a valuable resource that can drive job creation through tourism, creative arts, agro-processing, and eco-friendly enterprises.
He urged citizens both at home and abroad to uphold and promote their cultural heritage as a pathway to sustainable development.
The silver jubilee celebration of Nana Mprah Besemuna’s reign served not only as a tribute to enduring leadership but also as a renewed call for unity, collective responsibility, and investment-driven development to secure a brighter future for the Krachi area.
