By Stanley Senya

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) has launched the 2026 edition of the “Ghanaian Banker Magazine,” highlighting developments in the banking industry and the Institute’s contribution to professional standards.

The launch was held during the Chartered Banker Executive Leadership (CBEL) Connect, an evening event which brought together bank chief executives, alumni of the CBEL programme, council members and officials of the Bank of Ghana.

Dr Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB) and the President-elect of CIB Ghana, said the publication demonstrated the Institute’s commitment to strengthening professional standards and thought leadership within the banking industry.

She said the 2026 edition reinforced CIB Ghana’s position as a thought leader and standard bearer for professionalism in banking.

Dr Ohene-Afoakwa expressed appreciation to members and partners for their continued support, noting that collaboration among bankers was essential to advance the banking industry and the wider economy.

Mr Robert Dzato, FCIB and the Chief Executive Officer of CIB Ghana, took the guest through the contents of the new edition, describing it as one of the most comprehensive publications produced by the Institute.

He said the magazine captured the current state of the banking industry and offered perspectives on its future direction.

Mr Dzato said the publication was designed to serve bankers, regulators and the wider public by providing insights into developments and issues shaping the financial sector.

He said the “Ghanaian Banker” magazine would continue as an annual publication and encouraged members, bank executives and other industry stakeholders to contribute their perspectives to future editions.

The 2026 edition contains messages from the outgoing President, Mr Benjamin Kwabla Amenumey, and President-elect Dr Ohene-Afoakwa, as well as a perspective article by the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), on the future of banking.

It also features a leadership interview with Mr Albert Essien, the former Managing Director of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), a “profit with purpose” article by Mr Farihan Alhassa, the Managing Director of GCB Bank, and a personality profile of Dr Naomi Wolali Kwetey, the Managing Director of Consolidated Bank Ghana.

The publication further features economic outlook and budget highlights, comparative reviews of bank performances across key industry indicators, and reflections on CIB Ghana’s history and its role in developing trusted banking professionals.

It also highlights the Institute’s professional development programmes, including the Associate Chartered Institute of Bankers qualification and the CBEL programme, as well as its financial literacy outreach programmes in secondary schools across the country.

Mrs Asante-Asiedu, a member of the first CBEL cohort, commended CIB Ghana for the publication and its continued investment in professional development, saying innovation alone could not sustain the industry without a strong foundation of trust.

She said trust had to be earned and protected through integrity, professionalism and responsible conduct at every level of banking, while publications such as the “Ghanaian Banker” helped strengthen institutional memory, accountability and professional standards in the industry.
