Yawhima, (Bono), April 01, GNA – Mr Michael Yeboah Danso, an Elder of the Yawhima Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Sunyani Municipality has defended the government, saying that the nation cannot be blamed for the rising unemployment situation.
He said unemployment was now a global phenomenon that required a collective approach to address the canker through job creation opportunities.
He emphasised that until educational institutions prioritized practical above theoretical learning, it would be difficult for the nation to tackle the growing unemployment rate.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Yawhima in the Bono Region, Elder Danso noted that the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of addressing the challenge.
“Employment is a global phenomenon, and we must stop blaming the government and contribute our quota to addressing it”, the Church elder added.
Elder Danso therefore urged higher educational institutions to shift from theory-based to practical-based learning.
Nonetheless, stressed the need for the nation to prioritize and invest hugely on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), citing that “Germany is now Germany because of TVET education”.
Elder Danso urged especially employed graduates to be innovative and creative enough to find jobs for themselves, saying that their over-reliance on government jobs would “stuck” them in joblessness.
The Church elder noted that successive governments had been doing their best to create decent job opportunities for the people, and urged faith-based organisations to also contribute their quota towards job creation.
