Tamale, April 07, GNA – The Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale has organised its annual Easter picnic celebrations bringing together Catholics, families and visitors alike for a day of fun, games and socialisation.

The celebration, hosted by Saints Peter and Paul Parish, was under the theme: “Do not be afraid. Go and proclaim the Resurrection (Matthew 28:10)”.

It was preceded by a Mass, presided over by the Vicar General of the Tamale Archdiocese, Very Reverend Father Hilary Pogbeyir, and co-celebrated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Reverend Philip Naameh along with 27 priests.

Easter is celebrated by Christians to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Very Reverend Father Pogbeyir, in his homily, spoke on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and encouraged members of the congregation to be truthful in their dealings.

The day-long celebrations also featured activities for all ages as children enjoyed recreational games and fun rides, while adults joined in dancing to music.

Vendors offered a variety of food and refreshments where families and friends mingled freely enjoying the day’s entertainment and fellowship.

As part of the celebrations, the Church organised medical screening where health personnel from Saint Lucy Catholic Hospital at Kpalsi, Tamale, checked blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index and other basic health indicators providing free health assessment services to attendees.

Some of the celebrants highlighted the significance of the Easter picnic and said it strengthened community bonds and provided opportunities for families to celebrate Easter together.

Others noted that the picnic promoted fellowship amongst parishioners while also giving attendees a chance to engage in meaningful activities including the medical screening, making it both a social and health-conscious occasion.

The Easter picnic rotates amongst parishes each year.

Next year’s celebration will be hosted by Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Parish at Lamashegu in Tamale.
