Accra, April 10, GNA – Officials from the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) have completed an inspection of competition and technical facilities in Accra ahead of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships, scheduled from May 12–17, 2026.
The CAA delegation, led by Chief Executive Officer Mr Lamine Fati and Madam Melinda Lombard, head of television production, toured the University of Ghana Stadium, inspecting the track, offices and other technical installations.
Mr Fati thanked the Ghanaian government for its support and said preliminary assessments were positive.
“We are satisfied with the accommodation facilities after visiting some of the hotels that will host athletes and officials.
“We are also pleased with the anti-doping measures being put in place ahead of the championships,” Mr Fati said.
He added that transportation arrangements were largely in place and that organisers were close to full readiness, citing Ghana’s experience in hosting major multi-sport events, including the recent African Games.
Mr Bawah Fuseni, President of Ghana Athletics, who accompanied the delegation, said the inspection team provided constructive feedback to help address outstanding issues.
Mr Fuseni said discussions were ongoing with the Local Organising Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure final preparations are completed before the championships begin.
The African Senior Athletics Championships are expected to attract elite athletes from across the continent, further positioning Ghana as a regional hub for international sporting events.
Ghana was confirmed as host following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between key stakeholders in February, aligning the event with the country’s broader sports development and athletics promotion agenda.
