Tamale, April 10, GNA – The Northern Regional Police Command has retrieved two assault rifles and quantities of ammunition in connection with a violent attack and threat of death at Kunyevila, a suburb of Tamale.
The operation followed a report by a 25-year-old victim, Yahaya Abdul Rasheed, who presented himself at the Tamale Central District Police Headquarters at about 0635 hours on April 8, 2026, with severe injuries including a deep cut on his forehead and multiple bodily contusions.
The victim narrated to the Police that at about 0230 hours the same day, he was attacked by a suspect identified as Tobilana and nine accomplices, who inflicted the injuries with a cutlass following a misunderstanding.
The Police, in a press statement, sighted by the Ghana News Agency, said the attackers allegedly robbed him of his motorbike, two mobile phones, (Tecno and Infinix) and an amount of GHc2,800.00.
It said preliminary investigations indicated that the main suspect later armed himself with a firearm and proceeded to the victim’s residence, where he issued threats to kill him.
“Acting swiftly on the report, Police personnel from the Tamale District mounted an operation and proceeded to the suspect’s residence. Although the suspect was not found, a search conducted in his room in the presence of independent witnesses led to the retrieval of the victim’s stolen motorbike,” the statement said.
It said search uncovered one submachine gun assault rifle, with two magazines loaded with 77 rounds of ammunition, and one G3 assault rifle with two magazines loaded with 38 rounds of ammunition.
The statement indicated that all the retrieved items have been secured for evidential purposes.
It said the suspect, Tobilana, was currently at large, and Police had launched a manhunt for him and his accomplices.
