Tehran, April 15, (dpa/GNA) – A bomb attack has been reported in the Iranian capital, Tehran, for the first time since the start of the war with the United States and Israel.
Three people were injured in two explosions in the city centre, the Iranian news agency Fars reported on Wednesday.
The agency said improvised explosive devices were used in the attack, damaging buildings in the surrounding area.
The situation is under control, said a local commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in a video broadcast by the online portal Rouydad24.
The commander blamed “traitors to the fatherland” for the attack.
According to Iranian media, the explosive devices are believed to have been gas-based. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Reports of explosions in Tehran also appeared on social media.
A ceasefire has been in place in the Iran war for a week, following the start of US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
During the war, several high-ranking Iranian political and military figures in Iran were killed in US-Israeli attacks, including supreme leader ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israel and countries in the region which are allied with the US.
Bomb attacks are extremely unusual in the Islamic Republic.
