Akonta mock exam enters the final phase, BECE candidates prepare in Ketu South

Aflao (V/R), April 16, GNA — A total of 4,625 final-year Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region are set to sit for the third and final phase of the Akonta Special Mock Examinations.

The mock examination, scheduled to run from April 20 to April 24, 2026, will cover both core and elective subjects, aimed at assessing the preparedness of candidates ahead of the main BECE.

Mr Charles Elikplim Dorkenoo, Public Relations Officer of the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the exercise forms part of a structured intervention to adequately prepare candidates for the final examination.

He explained that the initiative began earlier in March with two separate mock sessions, where candidates were first examined in core subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies, followed by a second round of the same core subjects.

According to him, the third phase would provide a comprehensive assessment as it would include both core and elective subjects, giving candidates a full examination experience.

Mr Dorkenoo said the examinations would be conducted across 15 designated centres within the municipality, using official BECE centres to simulate real examination conditions.

He noted that the arrangement, which includes the presence of trained invigilators and supervisors, was intended to create a realistic environment to help candidates overcome fear and build confidence ahead of the actual BECE.

“The idea is to expose the candidates to the real examination atmosphere so that when they finally sit for the BECE under strict invigilation and supervision, they will be well prepared,” he said.

Mr Dorkenoo indicated that the Directorate had engaged all personnel responsible for invigilation and supervision to ensure strict adherence to guidelines set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

He commended Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi, for fully sponsoring the mock examination initiative, describing the gesture as a significant contribution to education in the municipality.

He said the sponsorship covered the printing of examination papers, logistics, transportation to various centres, and allowances for invigilators and supervisors.

Mr Dorkenoo also disclosed that special arrangements had been made to adjust reopening dates for schools whose facilities would be used as examination centres to ensure a smooth exercise.

He encouraged all candidates to take the examination seriously and give off their best efforts to improve academic performance in the municipality.

The 2026 BECE for both school and private candidates is scheduled to take place from Monday, May 4 to Monday, May 11, 2026, and will be conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as the final assessment for Junior High School students transitioning to Senior High School.
