Damongo (S/R), March 08, GNA – Mr Castro Yakubu Yussif, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, has called on leaders at all levels to demonstrate integrity, transparency and accountability, to restore and strengthen public trust in government.

He said building a just, prosperous, peaceful and united Ghana required collective efforts to strengthen the economy, improve governance and renew the confidence of citizens in leadership.

He made the call at a ceremony organised by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly to mark this year’s Independence Day celebrations, which featured a colourful march-past parade involving school children at Damongo in the Savannah Region.

It brought together traditional leaders, the clergy, heads of institutions, security services, political party representatives and students, to celebrate the nation’s 69th Independence anniversary.

Pupils and students from 15 schools; kindergarten, primary and junior high levels, participated in the parade showcasing discipline and patriotism.

Mr Yussif said the national theme: “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope,” was a reminder that independence required continuous commitment and responsibility from every citizen.

Touching on development projects in the municipality, he said the area had been designated for the establishment of two universities and a Girls’ Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School.

He said other ongoing projects included the construction of three three-unit classroom blocks and three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at various locations within the municipality.

Mr Yussif urged pupils and students to take their education seriously, embrace discipline, patriotism and hard work, and avoid acts that could destroy their future.

He appealed to members of the public to avoid divisive language and actions, and rather promote dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect to strengthen national unity.
