Nkroful (W/R), March 08, GNA – The Concerned Youth of Nzema have petitioned, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, over the unlawful entry of Salman community youth into Adamus Mining Company’s operational premise.

According to the group, “trespassing on the Company’s property, disrupting operations or engaging in any activity that threatened the peace and security are unlawful and unacceptable and does not represent the values and principles of the youth and the good people of Nzema”.

Mr Jonas Kabutey, President of the Concerned Youth of Nzema, who signed the petition, told a news conference at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

He said the act of the youth did not only violate the law, but also threatened jobs, investments and the development efforts that benefitted the wider community.

Mr Kabutey said “violence, intimidation and unlawful entry, cannot be justified under any circumstance” and called on the youth and community members to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law.

“While we acknowledge that there may be concerns relating to employment, compensation or community-company relations, we strongly believe that dialogue and lawful engagement remained the only appropriate channels for resolving grievances.

According to him, “it is unfortunate that the peaceful route the parties embarked on to guarantee and safeguard decent and gainful employment for the youth of Nzemaland is being ditched for individual and parochial interests”.

On the way forward, the called on the youth involved in the conflict to cooperate fully with the authorities and refrain from any further unlawful acts.

He also appealed to the management of ADAMUS Mining Company to continue engaging community leadership in constructive dialogue to address concerns and strengthen relations.

Mr Kabutey assured the security agencies of their full cooperation in maintaining peace and order.
