Accra, March 14, GNA — Ms Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, a Ghanaian, has won the British Council Study UK Award 2026.

She was named the winner of the Culture, Creativity and Sport category at the prestigious Study UK Alumni Awards organised by the British Council in Ghana.

The awards celebrate exceptional graduates of UK universities whose work demonstrates the lasting impact of British higher education across the world.

For Ms Boateng, the honour carries a historic significance. She becomes the first Ghanaian winner from Swansea University to receive recognition in that category, and as a winner for Ghana, she automatically progresses to become a Global Study UK Alumni finalist.

Her alma mater described her as an outstanding ambassador whose work has promoted cultural diplomacy and championed gender issues in the media, helping shape Ghana’s cultural and media landscape.

What makes her story even more compelling is the academic journey behind it.

Ms Boateng studied International Relations at Swansea University and graduated with distinction, an achievement she says came with both determination and resilience.

“I was the only Black person in my class to have graduated with distinction,” she said, reflecting on the experience.

Expressing appreciation for the recognition, she credited Swansea University for the transformation it brought to her life and career.

“I always say that knowledge is power, but anytime you go through a school like Swansea University, you change that phrase and say knowledge is transformational power, because the school transforms you to be a better person,” she said.

Her journey from student to cultural advocate highlights how education can shape voices that influence societies and bridge cultures.

This year’s edition of the Study UK Alumni Awards marks the fourth time the programme has been held in Ghana and the twelfth globally, continuing to spotlight alumni whose work is making meaningful contributions in their respective fields.

For Ms Boateng, the recognition is more than a personal milestone. It represents the possibilities that open when talent meets opportunity and when education becomes a platform for cultural connection and change.

From finalist to winner, this journey has been defined by perseverance, excellence, and a deep passion for culture and storytelling.
