Tamale, March 14, GNA – The Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON) has donated three copies of the book on Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery to the Library of University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale.
The book is entitled Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery: A Man of Faith and A Man For Others.
Dame Agnes Gandaa, Executive Secretary of TEPPCON, on behalf of Most Reverend Philip Naameh, President of TEPPCON, and Bishops of the Province, presented the book to the UDS in Tamale.
Madam Gandaa said the gesture was to provide knowledge and educational resources for students and readers to learn about the life and legacy of a great religious leader, who promoted inter-religious dialogue and ethnic harmony.
She expressed hope that students and readers would emulate the exemplary leadership and values Cardinal Dery demonstrated during his lifetime.
Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery was a Ghanaian prelate of the Catholic Church, who served as Archbishop of Tamale from 1974 to 1994 and was elevated to the rank of Cardinal in 2006.
Cardinal Dery, born on May 10, 1918, at Zimuopare, Ghana, was widely known for promoting enculturation by integrating the Catholic faith with local traditions.
Mr Habib Mohammed, Assistant Librarian, UDS and Mr Baasha Inusah, Junior Assistant Librarian, UDS received the books on behalf of the UDS.
Mr Mohammed expressed the university’s appreciation to TEPPCON for the gesture.
He said the university was always ready to welcome individuals and organizations, who supported the development of the library through such meaningful donations.
TEPPCON) is the joint body that coordinates the pastoral and socio-economic activities of the five Dioceses in the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province namely Tamale, Wa, Navrongo-Bolgatanga, Damongo, and Yendi.
