Sunyani (Bono), March 3, GNA-The government has been urged to implement more socio-economic interventions to alleviate the plight of the people.
Some residents in the Sunyani Municipality gave the advice when they commented on the 2026 State of the Nations Address (SONA) presented to parliament by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday February 27, 2026.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), they however commended the government for interventions put in place, praising President Mahama’s performance in his first year of administration.
They raised several development challenges, from bad road infrastructure to unemployment, salary disparities, and price volatility.
Mr Elijah Asamoah, a public servant, noted that the existing disparities in the salaries of workers kept widening, worrying that “some categories of government workers receive significantly higher pay, while the majority take home ‘paltry’ monthly salaries”, a discouraging situation which ought to be addressed.
He called on the government to review the Single Spine Salary Structure or initiate processes to establish an independent emoluments commission to address the salary disparities among formal sector employees in the country.
Mr Solomon Adu, a taxi driver, said he was surprised that the proposed dualization of the Sunyani-Abesim road was not captured in the SONA, questioning the source of funding for the project execution.
A businesswoman, Ms Vida Yeboah, also urged the government to prioritize the rehabilitation and upgrading of road networks that linked Bono to other regions to spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.
“The proposed relocation of the Airport will amount to a waste of resources”, she stated, explaining that most people in the region relied on road transport, calling on the government to improve road networks instead.
Ms Yeboah said reshaping the bad roads in the region directly benefited the people, opening the region for economic growth and progressive development.
Master Enoch Anwti, a student, also called on the government to expedite action on the implementation of the 24-hour economy initiative and to create more job opportunities for the youth.
